His estranged son is stranded aboard a research vessel on the exposed Atlantic floor. Tavren and six other survivors follow an ancient road through grounded ships, abandoned stations, and evidence of a danger that was deliberately removed from public charts.
What begins as a rescue becomes a struggle to protect a growing company of refugees as the world below the sea opens into a war no chart can explain.

Worked stone and vast mechanisms wait at the end of an ancient road. A structure can be an entrance—or the last thing keeping something inside.
The captain
A capable rescuer trying to reach the son from whom he has grown estranged. The farther he goes, the harder it becomes to separate love from control.

A physician, a mechanic, and a cook with a quartermaster’s experience keep people moving, fed, and alive when plans begin to fail.
Evidence & belief
A surveyor, a former broadcaster, and a young dockworker bring partial knowledge, difficult questions, and the willingness to keep listening.
